Six world powers negotiated with Iran in Turkey to drop the nuclear enrichment programme. International Atomic Energy Agency submitted its fresh report mentioning of a military facility that could have stored undeclared nuclear material in Iran. The tension seems to be only rising with the passionate rounds of negotiations.
Expert-level consultation
Iran concluded its second round of talks with the six world powers. The reason for the talks were the international sanctions imposed up on Iran for not adhering to the nuclear energy regulations and under the suspicion that Iran has been developing nuclear weapons in the name of nuclear energy used for peaceful purpose.
Round two
The second round of talks began with the three hour session by Baroness Catherine Ashton who is the lead negotiators for the world powers and presented the revised options for Iran. The key point of the proposal is that Iran should drop nuclear enrichment programme. Iran over the time has consistently maintained that the nuclear programme is meant for peaceful use and they do not intent to develop nuclear weapons.
The negotiators said that if Iran could agree with the World powers than some of the sanctions imposed could be eased. Buy news articles to know about the sanctions imposed on Iran. By the end of the round there was hardly any sign of tension easing between both the parties.
First report
Iran had also discovered raw Uranium deposits in the southern coastal regions and thus had planned to set up 16 more nuclear power stations. Before the second round of talks between Iran and P5+1 started, International Atomic Energy Agency had submitted its report declaring the intentions of Iran behind building nuclear energy. The IAEA report had given a clean chit to Iran saying that the nuclear programme of Iran had a peaceful intention.
Second report
IAEA submitted another report after the second round of talks in which it mentioned that Iran has continued to produce 20 per cent enriched uranium. The report mentioned that the majority of the uranium had been converted into fuel and thus was of no use in developing weapons.
The United Nations watchdog reported that Iran denied the access to its military facility which might have undeclared nuclear material. Satellite images were presented which showed that Iran was developing nuclear weapons with alternative ways. It has continued to operate a plant that could produce plutonium. The report mentions of the heavily guarded Iranian facility for which IAEA has been trying to get access for the past 18 months.
Satellite images
The satellite images revealed that Iran had re-activated the Arak heavy-water production plant. Plutonium used in the bomb could be produced with a nuclear reactor that needs the heavy water. The United Nations watchdog had earlier attempted to enter the facility in the month of August 2011 but was denied access. The site is located 150 miles south west of Tehran. Western governments along with United Nations have been pressuring Iran to open the facility for the IAEA.
