Honesty is one of the most important character traits of a great leader. A leader will always lead with righteousness. Your followers will see your honesty and will be appreciated for that quality.

Don't counter your morals to compete with other businesses. If your competitors are using unethical practices, look for an alternative so you can compete. You don't have to do what they are doing just to stay relevant. You will feel a whole lot better if you find a legitimate way to compete.
Avoid engaging in any behavior that could be interpreted as being underhanded or devious. If your claim is to be the best in your industry, you need to back it up with actual results.
Always prepare thoroughly before you speak with your team members. Think of possible questions they may ask you. Spend some time thinking of what your answers for them. Your team will be impressed with how you have all the answers that they need. It will also save a lot of time in the long run.
Make sure that you have goals and set targets for the people working under you. Everyone loves to strive for something, and people that lead will find ways to get goals reached in an easy way. Don't simply post them up and let them vanish during the year. Hold monthly meetings to make sure everyone is still on track to reach the goals.
Set team goals but make sure they are not impossible to reach. All this will do is set your team is going to fail. This will only serve to show everyone that leadership is not your strong point.
Those who report to you are likely to judge you by your decision making. They will watch who you delegate responsibilities to, fire, hiring and firing.
Know exactly what your own personal goals require. Understand your goals in business goals. They should align well and even overlap to some areas. You always want to be able to work on both sets of goals simultaneously. If you are unable to do this, your lack of enthusiasm for work will show.
If you are overconfident, you're bound to fail. Make sure you're weak areas.
Use your role as leader to build a strong team that can work together well. Be available to talk to your employees about problems and answer questions honestly and as best of your ability. You also don't want to interfere too much with what your employees are doing.
Always communicate with your employees. Failing to communicate is pretty counterproductive and can only hurt the team goals.Bad communication also show a lack of control on your part.
Leading people isn't easy, but it's definitely worth the effort. You make others' lives better, and that is what leadership is about. There are many people in the world who benefit from leadership within their lives, and once they learn the skills for themselves they can then pay it forward.
